SCIAMACHY Products Information

The information provided on this page is applicable to the SCIAMACHY Level 1, Level 2, and the FDR4ATMOS (Fundamental Data Records) datasets, all released in 2024.

The latest SCIAMACHY reprocessed datasets are Level 1b version 10 and Level 2 version 7.1, both generated from the full-mission reprocessing campaign completed in 2023.

The distribution of old SCIAMACHY product versions will continue in parallel for a limited time period. Users are strongly recommended to migrate to the latest reprocessed datasets.

A new Level 2 product containing Limb O3 profiles extracted from the previous SCIAMACHY SGP version 6.01 data and NetCDF formatted has been released for long-term change studies.

The SCIAMACHY Product Handbook (aligned with data versions L1v8 and L2v6) provides the user with a very good insight of the SCIAMACHY principles and mission details.

SCIAMACHY Level 2 SGP version 7.1 Technical Documents

The ground-based validation of the Limb O3 profiles from SCIAMACHY SGP versions 7 and 7.1 revealed unusual oscillations. For long-term change studies, users are strongly advised to use the ozone limb profiles from the SCIAMACHY Level 2 dataset version 6. For convenience, a new Envisat SCIAMACHY Level 2 stand-alone product containing ozone stratospheric profiles from limb measurements was extracted from the previous version 6 dataset and converted in NetCDF format (http//doi.org/10.57780/en1-2d5de29). Details on the V6 data are given in the next section.

Fundamental Data Records

GOME/SCIAMACHY FDR version 1.0

Under the ESA FDR4ATMOS(Fun damental Data Records in the domain of satellite Atmospheric Composition) project, an experimental product merging the nadir-looking measurements of ERS-2 GOME and Envisat SCIAMACHY was created harmonizing solar irradiance and Earth reflectance targeting the retrievals of sulfur dioxide and ozone in the UV, nitrogen dioxide in the VIS, and cloud parameters in the NIR spectral regions. The Atmospheric Composition UVN FDR is a cross-instrument Level 1b product (10.5270/ESA-852456e)  ranging from 1995 to 2012.
