Venice lagoon: A Satellite Perspective from 1985 to 2019

These comparative images, acquired by Landsat 5 in August 1985 and Landsat 8 in September 2013, show the ongoing work on the MOSE project, aimed at protecting the Venice lagoon from high tides. Construction began in 2003 with the project's goal being to safeguard the lagoon, its communities, and its rich historical, artistic, and environmental heritage from floods and extreme weather events. A third image was acquired in 2019 by Sentinel-2, featuring a 10-meter resolution.
