Wildfires around Mount Vesuvius and Amalfi Coast, Italy, July 2017

In July 2017, a series of wildfires burnt through areas around Mount Vesuvius on the Amalfi coast in Italy. The first two images, acquired by the Landsat 8 within a three-month time window, show the extensive areas affected by the fires, before and after the destruction. The top left corner clearly shows the large burnt area around Mount Vesuvius, with the damage to vegetation emphasized in brown due to the use of false colours. The third and fourth images, captured by Sentinel-2 using a combination of optical bands in false colour, focus on the Amalfi coast, displaying the regions burnt between July and August, visible in black.
