Wildfires in Australia, December 2019

In 2019, record-breaking temperatures and months of severe drought fueled a series of massive bushfires across Australia. The first two images, from the Landsat-8 satellite, display the areas before and during the fires, processed in infrared false colour to highlight the burnt areas. The third and fourth images, captured by Copernicus Sentinel-2 over Kangaroo Island, show a stretch of forest in the northeast of the island completely destroyed by fire. The third image combines optical bands in natural colours, while the fourth uses false colours.
