CryoSat Data Samples

Dataset Description

Examples of CryoSat data from Baseline-B, -C and -D are available to download. These data samples will help you become familiar with the format of the new CryoSat products before they are incorporated into the operational baseline. As such, the data samples are not fully representative of the quality that will be provided when this data is released. Baseline-D is the latest processor, and took effect from 28 April 2019.

The full CryoSat datasets are freely available from the CryoSat Science Server.

Baseline-D Ice Products

These data samples contain CryoSat Ice Products in NetCDF format, processed with the new Baseline-D Ice processors. The data sample comprises L1B and L2 Offline data products for 1 July 2019 (00:00 – 02:00).

Baseline-C Ocean Products

These data samples contain CryoSat Ocean Products in NetCDF format, processed with the Baseline-C Ocean Processors. The Ocean Processors process Level 0 LRM, SAR and SARIn data to L1B and L2 ocean products. Basline-C introduced three classes of products, each with different delivery latencies:

  • Near-Real Time Ocean Products (NOP) – delivered 3 hours after acquisition
  • Intermediate Ocean Products (IOP) – delivered 48 hours after acquisition
  • Geophysical Ocean Products (GOP) – delivered 30 days after acquisition

These products are then further classified according to the acquisition mode (LRM, SAR and SARIn). Download the Ocean Product Format Specification for more information on the products.

Additionally, global Pole-to-Pole (P2P) products are concatenated multi-mode L2 products generated for IOP and GOP. Two P2P products are generated per orbit, spanning between the North and South poles and combining successive IOP and GOP products respectively. Please note that the P2P products have been given the same product name as the Baseline-B L2 IOP and GOP products but do not have the same content, frequency or size.

Below is a sample of L1B and L2 GOP data for 21 August 2011 (00:00 – 04:00). Data samples are only provided for GOP, however please note that the format of these products is representative of the IOP and NOP data; the processing of these products is the same and the only difference lies in the use of different input auxiliary files.

Baseline-C Ice Products

These data samples contain CryoSat Ice Products processed with the Baseline-C LRM, SAR and SARIn Ice processors. Both L1B and L2 products are provided for 1 January 2016.

Baseline-B Ocean Products

These data samples contain CryoSat Ocean Products in Earth Explorer Format processed with the Baseline-B Ocean Processors. The Baseline-B Ocean Processors process Level 0 LRM and SAR data to generate two classes of products, each with different delivery latencies:

  • Intermediate Ocean Products (IOP) – delivered 48 hours after acquisition
  • Geophysical Ocean Products (GOP) – delivered 30 days after acquisition

Both L1B and L2 products are provided for 1 July 2013. These data samples will help you become familiar with the format of the CryoSat Ocean Products. Download the IOP and GOP Product Format Specification for more information on the format of the LB and L2 IOP and GOP (Earth Explorer Format).
