In July 2002, northern Europe experienced severe flooding, significantly impacting cities and rural areas alike. The worst-affected areas included Czechia, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Croatia. The first image is a multi-temporal image captured over Czechia. The second, third, and fourth images show the area around Dresden along the Elbe River in Germany—these images were respectively acquired in violet, yellow, and blue. The fifth image was captured over the Elbe valley between Wittenberg and Wittenberge, while the sixth is a multi-temporal image acquired over the Elbe and Havel rivers. The seventh image, captured over Czechia, depicts České Budějovice at the junction of the Vltava and Malše rivers, visible on the right of the image. The eighth image, acquired over Austria, illustrates Linz on the Danube River, which is clearly visible as a cluster of very bright points. The ninth image is centreed on the Elbe River, crossing Czechia and Germany from the southeast to the northwest.
