In July 2017, wildfires fueled by strong winds swept through dense forests of pine and eucalyptus in central Portugal, 200 kilometres northeast of Lisbon. This comparison depicts the large area destroyed by the fires. The first image was created using bands in natural colour, while the second, in false colour, highlights the burnt area in dark red.
