Fires in Spain, July 1994

In July 1994, Spain experienced devastating wildfires, driven by high summer temperatures and strong winds. These fires consumed thousands of hectares of forest and scrubland across the country. The first two images, captured on July 5, show smoke from the fires near Castellon de la Plana, Valencia (Requena, Almansa), and Alicante (Alcoy). The third image, captured on July 7, illustrates the aftermath and the extent of the damage caused by the fires. The last image, taken on July 4, focuses on an area 60 km northwest of Barcelona, covering Cataluna, Berga, and Cardoner, where the fire is shown in full blaze. The image employs band combinations 7, 4, and 1 to differentiate features: red highlights soil types and detects forest fires, green maps vital vegetation and outlines burnt areas, and blue differentiates soil from vegetation and detects haze and smoke.
