Fires in Montecito (California), December 2017

In December 2017, the Montecito area in Santa Barbara County, California, was severely impacted by the Thomas Fire. Driven by strong winds and dry conditions, the fire scorched vast areas, causing damage to property and the environment. These images, captured by the Landsat 8 satellite, illustrate the extensive area affected by the fires in December 2017. The first and second images were created using natural colour bands, while the third and fourth images utilized false colour bands. In these images, the burnt areas are visible in dark brown, and smoke plumes from active fires are clearly visible.
