Etna Volcano (Italy), October 2002
These images, acquired by the ERS-2 and Envisat satellites in November 2002, illustrate Etna volcano during its eruptive activity. The first image is a composite made using 1.6, 0.87, and 0.65 micron wavelengths. The second image was captured using the 11 micron infrared channel. The third image was created using a combination of three bands, specifically bands 15, 9, 1. The fourth image shows the same area as the third but uses a different band combination of bands 5, 2, 1. A plume of smoke is clearly visible in each image.
