Eruption of Mount Merapi Volcano (Indonesia), May-June 2006
In May 2006, an earthquake near Yogyakarta, Indonesia, triggered heightened activity in Mount Merapi, one of the region's most active volcanoes. The quake caused significant damage to Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas. The first image is a multi-layer image created from acquisitions in May and June 2006, capturing Mount Merapi's volcanic activity. The second image, acquired in August 2006, shows Java Island, home to Mount Merapi. The last three images, taken between June 4 and June 20, 2006, depict a plume of smoke rising from Mount Merapi.
