First ESA/CONAE PUMAS training in Argentina
The first ESA and CONAE PUMAS (Promotion of the Use and Applications of Mission and Science) training, jointly organised by ESA and CONAE in cooperation with the Gulich Institute, the National University of Córdoba (UNC) and the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), was held from 14-18 October 2024, at the Teófilo Tabanera Space Centre, in Córdoba, Argentina.
Multi-frequency radar data from new campaign supports sea ice monitoring
A new dataset has been released for the CIRFAEx campaign, which took place off the coast of Greenland in 2022 to support the development of the upcoming ROSE-L and Sentinel-1 Next Generation missions.
CIRFAEx
From 22 April 2022 to 12 May 2022, the Norwegian research vessel Kronprins Haakon served as base for in-situ measurements and observations of sea ice and snow properties at Belgica Bank / North-East Greenland which is a region of highly variable ice cover characteristics and frequent occurrences of icebergs.
Showcasing ESA's HEDAVI Earth observation tool
ESA's HEDAVI (HEritage DAta VIsualiation) is a platform that allows users to freely access over 40 years of ESA Earth observation Heritage, Third Party Missions and some Copernicus data.
Calbuco Volcano eruption (Chile), April 2015
View satellite images capturing the eruption of Calbuco Volcano eruption in April 2015.
New stories on change detection and ERS-2 re-entry in HEDAVI
Two new stories are now available in ESA’s HEDAVI (HEritage DAta VIsualisation) tool. HEDAVI visualises Earth observation data from satellites in ESA’s Heritage and Third Party Missions programme, and includes some data from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites.
Heritage data provide insight into Alpine landslides
Using radar data from ESA’s Envisat, ERS and Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites, scientists have shown how satellite radar interferometry can shed light on landslide processes in the Swiss Alps.

Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem
The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem provides free instant access to a wide range of data and services from the Copernicus Sentinel missions.
FRM4SM: Fiducial Reference Measurements for Soil Moisture
Fiducial Reference Measurements for Soil Moisture (FRM4SM) is a European Space Agency (ESA) managed project focused, on one hand, on defining procedures and protocols to qualify in situ soil moisture measurements as “FRMs” and, on the other hand, on addressing specific concerns intrinsic to the satellite soil moisture validation strategy (e.g., in situ measurement’s spatial representativeness, and the identification of committed areas for satellite soil moisture validation).
GLOC 2023: Democratising data access key to climate action
The need for easy access to remote sensing data and making them more digestible to the local user community, were take home messages from the first Global Space Conference on Climate Change (GLOC), held in Oslo, Norway, last week.
Scientists to showcase value of Earth observation data at EGU
Remote sensing scientists are getting ready to present innovative and exciting applications of satellite data at the European Geosciences Union general assembly which will take place from 24 to 28 April in Vienna, Austria.
WaddenSAR
The “WaddenSAR – Airborne bistatic C-band SAR experiment to demonstrate different acquisition geometries” was initiated to support the development of the Earth Explorer 10 Harmony mission.

Long-term satellite data show wind farms can affect local air currents
Decades of satellite data have allowed for the first long-term study of the impact of offshore wind farms on downstream wind flow in coastal areas.
How SNAP facilitates access to ESA Third Party Missions data
The tool – called the Sentinel Applications Platform (SNAP) – incorporates high-quality remote sensing data from numerous missions, including those operated by the agency’s international partners, known as Third Party Missions (TPM).
Dragon 3 2014 Symposium
The Dragon 3 2014 Symposium was part of the Dragon 3 Programme, focussed on exploitation of ESA, ESA's Third Party Missions and Chinese Earth observation data for geo-science and applications development in land, ocean and atmospheric applications.
