Title: Conceptual model explaining ERS-Envisat ground displacement time series
Description: Schematic three-dimensional view of the Campi Flegrei and Vesuvius magmatic systems and of the ground displacement sources during the 2002–2010 period. The bluish regions contracted, while the reddish regions expanded. Source 1 (S1) indicates the already-known source of most deformation at Campi Flegrei. The partially molten layer beneath Campi Flegrei and Vesuvius is represented by a light orange parallelepiped and is fed by a deeper reservoir. During 2002-2010, magma and/or magmatic fluids were transferred from beneath Vesuvius to beneath Campi Flegrei at a depth of 8-9 km, as indicated by the blue-to-red horizontal arrow in (a) and (b). The two panels depict two different possible scenarios.
