New features available on HEDAVI

27 Feb 2025

With its latest release, new features have been added to the HEDAVI (HEritage DAta VIsualisation) portal. These enhancements are designed to improve the user’s experience, and to offer additional tools, as well as satellite data.

Copernicus Sentinel-2 Level-1c and Level-2a data

The HEDAVI platform now offers Level-1c and Level-2a data of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission. Users can search, prepare, display and process Sentinel-2 data to create customised layer-stacks and stories. With its 13 spectral bands (some of which have a spatial resolution of 10 metres) and the on-the-fly processing offered by HEDAVI, a large number of rendering combinations are available.

The view below shows four Sentinel-2 tiles, which in this image are processed to ensure continuity between tiles.

New Sentinel-2 Cloudless basemaps

Sentinel-2 Cloudless basemaps from 2021, 2022 and 2023 have been added to the HEDAVI Explorer background maps selector, expanding the series already available from previous years.

To see these maps, right click on the “Sentinel-2 Cloudless (ESA/EOX)” option from the Background Maps menu and then select which year you would like to view.

These global maps were generated by EOX from Sentinel-2 products. Learn more about Sentinel-2 cloudless maps.

Improvement of the GeoTIFF export

HEDAVI Explorer allows users to export the layers they have created in GeoTIFF format (among others). With the new HEDAVI release, the stability of this functionality has been improved to avoid errors in specific cases.

New “Water Quality Index” processing unit

A “Water Quality Index” has been added to the HEDAVI on-the-fly processing engine. It implements the formula proposed in the scientific article A reflectance-based water quality index and its application to examine degradation of river water quality in a rapidly urbanising megacity.
