Title: Solar Radio Burst measured by SMOS sensors
Description: SMOS observations from 17:24 -18:10 GMT (18:24 – 19:10 CET) show a very impressive Solar Radio Burst (SRB) with a maximum of 25K SFU (Solar Flux Units) around 17:46 (upper plot). The SRB had a strong circular polarisation component (lower plot) that caused degradation in the GNSS signal in particular for receivers located in South America, as reported by the Space Weather Research Group at the Universidad de Alcalá. Gap in the time series is due to the Sun being eclipsed by Earth.
