About GOSAT Series
The GOSAT (Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite) series is composed of two environment-monitoring satellites developed by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) dedicated to the observation of greenhouse gases. Both satellites remain operational.
The first GOSAT satellite was launched on 23 January 2009.
GOSAT-2 was launched on 29 October 2018 and carries enhanced versions of the instruments aboard the original GOSAT and provides data continuity.
The GOSAT satellites are part of ESA's Third Party Missions Programme, in which ESA has an agreement with JAXA to distribute data products from the missions.
GOSAT Series Objectives
The overall objective of the GOSAT series is to contribute to environmental monitoring by measuring greenhouse gases.
