Lake Geneva: A Satellite Perspective from 2002 to 2015

These images, acquired by the Landsat 5 and 8 satellites, show Lake Geneva, also known as Lake Léman, on the border between Switzerland and France. The two most populous lakeside cities, Geneva at the southwest end and Lausanne on the northern shore, are in Switzerland. On the French side, the notable spa towns of Thonon-les-Bains and Évian-les-Bains lie along the southern shore. Lake Geneva is frequently subject to seiches, oscillations that cause the water level to rise and fall by about 0.6 to 1.5 metres in the course of half an hour, often triggered by variances in atmospheric pressure on different parts of the water's surface.
