Etna Volcano (Italy), 2013 - 2014

These images, acquired by the Landsat 8 satellite in December 2013 and February 2014, show the Etna volcano during its eruptive activity. Smoke and lava are clearly visible in the centre of the images, emerging from the volcano's crater. The last image was created using data from different acquisition dates, showing bursts of lava as white stripes along the new crater on the southeast side.
