What orbit does CryoSat use?
CryoSat orbits at an unusually high inclination, of about 92 degrees. The orbit is not sun-synchronous and consequently the orbital plane rotates with respect to the sun direction. CryoSat was originally put into orbit at an altitude of 717 kilometres and in June 2020 it was raised by a further 887 metres during the CRYO2ICE Campaign.
