Due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak in Europe, the EGU General Assembly 2020 in Vienna was replaced by the 'EGU2020: Sharing Geoscience Online' (#shareEGU20) initiative, a week-long series of online activities from 4 to 8 May 2020 to support the EGU community by fostering scientific communication.

The next edition of the EGU General Assembly in Vienna was scheduled to take place from 25 to 30 April 2021.

The purpose of the EGU General Assembly 2020 was to bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. Its aim was to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, could present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.
