Promising tests for the ERS-2 Scatterometer

29 November 1995

Good results have been obtained during the latest ERS-2 scatterometer tests. Although the data quality and long term stability is still under evaluation, the outlook is very promising for the ERS-2 instrument achieving full operational status. These new results have been achieved through an attenuation of the emission power and the adjustment of a few parameters relative to the stability of the emitting tube. In spite of a signal/noise relationship less favourable than on ERS-1, data quality is comparable to the ERS-1 Scatterometer data. The ERS-2 Scatterometer commissioning phase will start on January 1st, 1996 for a duration of three months. These activities shall not interfere with the ERS-1 and ERS-2 Tandem Operation in progress.
