3rd Swarm Science Meeting
19-20 June 2014, Copenhagen, DenmarkHosted by DTU Space (Denmark's national space institute) During the summer of 2014 DTU Space hosted the 3rd Swarm Science Meeting, sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA). This meeting took place at the IDA Conference Centre in Copenhagen on the 19 and 20 June 2014, and was open to the science community at large. ObjectivesThe ESA Earth Observation Swarm satellite mission, a constellation of three satellites to measure the Earth's magnetic field, was launched on 22 November 2013. The mission delivers observations that provide new insight into the Earth system by improving our understanding of the Earth's interior as well as the near Earth electro-magnetic environment important for space weather effects. The unprecedented high-accuracy and high spatial resolution measurements of the strength, direction and time variations of the magnetic field, complemented by precise navigation, accelerometer and electric field measurements, provide the required observations to model the various sources of the geomagnetic field and the gravity field.
